A few of the things I’m most looking forward to when I leave the office to join the world.
Hopping on the bike without a destination or a schedule, just exploring.
Writing regularly and writing actual fiction, rather than the fiction of business proposals and expense reports.
Meeting new people every day
Challenges and struggling in an unfamiliar environment.
“The greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.” – Michaelangelo
The Unexpected. Opening new chapters without knowing how they end.
Exposing my personality rather than covering it in a cloak of office politics
Sitting at a cafe on a Tuesday morning, just watching the gentle flow of the town
Simple living without clutter. When I felt stress looking at the stack of DVDs I never got around to watching, I knew it was time to simplify.
Walking to a local market to pick up a loaf of French bread, or as they call it, bread. No SUV, no SuperGiantMart
Views that aren’t framed by an office window all day
Train stations – an unparalleled launching pad for imagined stories of human interaction, emotion and drama
Being unplugged once in a while. Reading e-mails because I want to, not because there’s another corporate fire drill
Special thanks to Jeannie (www.nomadicchick.com) for once again providing me with inspiration. She’s on a similar time schedule as me, but way ahead of me in sharing about it so I’m always learning from her. Check out her site for some great stories and information.

I can definitely relate to these – if only I was closer to my own RTW trip. I start graduate school come August so hopefully that will keep me entertained for a short while – and provide me time to plot, plan and save up for my own RTW trip.

Love the inclusion of a train station! I love them, and prefer taking a train over flying or hopping a bus. Speaking of DVD’s, have you watched Central Station? A film based in Brazil and set in a train station. Maybe it’s among all those movies you haven’t watched.
Thanks for the kind words, I really, really appreciate it, and I’m not just saying that.

Nope, never seen it. I’ll see if I can track it down. Haha – get it? Train? Track?
Hee-larious!
I love the sitting at a cafe on a Tuesday. Sitting down for hours and taking in the view and people watching is my absolute favorite thing to do when I travel.

That’s one of my challenges! I LOVE people watching, usually to the exclusion of interacting with anyone. That’s part of what I aim to correct! A nice, healthy balance of watching and chatting.
…walking in to a market to buy bread after stopping time and saving the cheerleader…
Sorry, couldn’t help the Heroes reference!
Ha – as a card carrying nerd, I loved the first season. It went nowhere for me after that. I tried, but finally had to give up on it during season 3.
“Simplify.” Love that one.

Yeah, after my trip to Rio a few years back I realized how overwhelmed I was by “stuff” that I supposedly bought for pleasure. I dumped a ton of it and stuck to buying only the few things that I truly enjoyed and not just for the sake of having it.
I also love trains, even if its just the subway it’s still the best way to travel.
One thing I’m looking forward to is the opportunity to do whatever I want, even if it means not doing anything. I’m not going to rush around from one place to another and at the last minute if I feel like not going somewhere, I won’t.
My favorite, at the moment. So looking forward to this one myself “Exposing my personality rather than covering it in a cloak of office politics”.
